The Monastery of St Elijah the Prophet is located in Ilientsi quarter, Sofia and is named after the monastery.

At present only the main monastery church and its foundations have remained from Roman times.

The frescos in the narthex (Doomsday, 1550) and in the nave compile a detailed iconographic layout with an exceptionally well-developed cycle of Christ.

They are the only pieces of art preserved from the time of St Thomas the Icon Painter when, in the first half of the 16th century, Sofia flourished as a major Orthodox spiritual, literary and icon- painting centre.
